Club Penguin is a multiplayer online chat game where you can “waddle around and meet new friends”. On Club Penguin, you walk (or waddle) around an island filled with penguins and layered with snow in an antarctic region. The idea of Club Penguin was made by Lance Preibe, a Club Penguin founder, when he was trying to make up games for children. He saw a drawing of penguins working at his desk and thought it would be good for a game. He then went to his executive, David Krysko (Billybob) and they started planning the game.
Penguin Chat 3
Before Club Penguin, there was something called Penguin Chat 3. You used to be able to play it on rocketsnail.com, but as of now, they have closed down the site so everyone visits clubpenguin.com instead. Back then, the whole thing was free and there were things on it that the Club Penguin Team never put back onto Club Penguin. It was actually very similar to Club Penguin, except there was only one place you could go to, the Town. There wasn’t a Cove, Snow Forts, Dojo, or your own home or anything else, but the Town (which included the Gift Shop, Night Club and Coffee Shop). Penguin chat 3 had the same town as CP. But there were other rooms which were very plain. There were hidden secrets such as the snow cat(which you could drive) and the worker helmet(drilled when you danced). Penguin chat 3 was the first version of the PC series that introduced different color penguins and also the ninja. The ninja was obtained by going to your penguin’s settings and clicking the “s” of the header words. Your penguin would then become a ninja. Moderators were green snails with tan shells and rarely got on line. Here are some pictures I found that are from Penguin Chat 3 :
The beta testing
During the start of Summer in 2005, the Rocket Snail team announced they were creating something called Club Penguin, which was basically a much better version of Penguin Chat. After a few days, they closed the Penguin Chat. On August 22nd 2005 the Club Penguin beta test was open. Applications were only accepted for a few days! The beta test was meant to get rid of the many bugs in the game and improve it to their audience’s tastes. The beta test party was meant to give the testers some more fun and to test the ONE server’s capabilities. They could basically try out the new Club Penguin beforehand. Club Penguin launch
On October 22nd 2005 Club penguin was launched to the public with only one server(this was fine at the time). Beta testers got one month of free Club Penguin membership, they got to keep their party hat from the very first Club Penguin party ever, and a certain amount of coins (I think 2,000). The immediate launch theme was Halloween. The catalog included many Halloween themed costumes and the igloo catalog had some nice Halloween “props”.
More new features
Although Club Penguin started out slow on the features they slowly started to provide. Coins used to be harder to get from games. So they bumped it up to one coin per every 10 points on every game. Non members were aloud to spend their coins on colors. Another gift shop was launched(sport shop). Little fluffy things began appearing around club penguin when you clicked certain spots(these are now known as puffles). The first igloo upgrades were released. The buddy list was improved and expanded. And a expansion to the sled races was added(there used to only be one track!). All of these updates took place over 2 months.
Christmas Party
Joyous music reigned through club penguin on the weekend of Christmas. Gifts were given out(Santa hat and Christmas scarves). And a second server was launched! There now was a east and west.
The test servers
The test servers were servers that we tested for bugs. They featured a rebuild of the CP code. Along with these servers came a slew of free items.

Now, if you are wondering about Pins, those are collectors items. In other words, they never return to the game.

More updates and more penguins
The new servers were launched(what we know today) and the first MEMBER ONLY PARTY was ,also, launched. It was the pizza party where members could obtain a chef hat and pizza apron for free. The pet shop was launched along with puffles and Club Penguin began to grow in number. CP players were encouraged to give newer players tours. The game Find four was launched and instantly became a craze! And the boiler room was said to be coming back! The underground was soon launched.
